Their dispatch rang me up for the wrong amount and then called me a week later to ask for more money via a questionable online form, which was annoying for a few reasons but mostly A) the amount they asked for after THEIR mistake was more than it should have been (unless after 80 something hours I still don’t understand how flight schools work), and B) this happened after my passenger left the instructor $40 in gratuity. Cessna was in terrible condition. Instructor was nice though.
As a professional pilot visiting Hawaii, I was surprised to learn that the "checkout process" takes an average of 7 hours of flight training. When I asked why, the response was "to deal with the Bravo airspace." I'm sorry, but an ATP rated pilot with an active CFI certificate shouldn't require 7 hours of training to learn how to navigate the local Bravo VFR procedures. This seemed like an obvious money-grab, and was very distasteful. A 2 hour checkout with a detailed ground school prior would be more than sufficient for an experienced ATP/CFI.
Frankly, a half hour to show that you know how to fly, and a half hour to fly the area and point out the landmarks is probably adequate. 2 hours would be overkill, but not exorbitantly so.
I have visited Oahu twice and both times I have rented a Cessna 172 from George's Aviation Services to fly around the island. Why was I repeat customer? Because George's treated me great and has great employees. I'm an ATP but I don't bother with a checkout as I enjoy having an instructor go along because they take the stress out of dealing with Honolulu tower and airspace and they are extremely knowledgeable of all things around the island. My first flight the instructor showed me where to spot whales and we saw many, the second flight my instructor pointed out Hanauma Bay and highly recommended visiting. I subsequently added to my itinerary the next day and was totally blown away. The aircraft are in good condition and well maintained. Go check them out, you will not be disappointed.

I always saw George almost everyday, we always greeted each other with a hand shake and the Aloha Hug !
The Staff at George Aviation we’re always professional, and assisted me with any questions I had. I thought about mentioning all the staff but I felt I might forget someone.
The Entire Staff made me feel like I was at home.
They always treated me like Family.
Aircraft issues none to bear , I always had the aircraft that day or the next day ready and available.
The office and or building to include the outside garage flight hanger are always clean and neat.
There are refreshments available, lounge chairs, as well and a Large Screen Television. I would say huge television. I felt like I was at home ; they also have a Pilot Store.
I gave five stars ; to George’s Aviation but honestly you would have to go visit George’s Flight School.
Clean , Professional, photos on the wall, Everything is great.
The flight Instructor’s know their stuff and won’t let any thing slide, you either know the maneuvers or you don’t, communication is the same, each and every flight instructor are readily available.
If you have any questions feel free to ask any of the instructors, very professional and know what they are talking about. I will say this the George’s Flight Instructor’s are knowledgeable in this craft so don’t try to pretend you know what you are doing , they will test you to insure you know your skills.
My last suggestion is stop by and take a walk , and or tour of the George’s Aviation Flight School you won’t be disappointed.
